Establishing Centene's East Coast Headquarters in Charlotte, North Carolina
Business, Transforming Communities
This week, Charlotte and North Carolina government officials and community leaders joined Centene executives and employees for the company's East Coast Headquarters Dedication Ceremony. The event marks one year since the announcement of our plans to create a new Charlotte campus.
As an enterprise serving more than 25 million members across all 50 states, the strategic placement of our regional headquarters is a reflection of this growth. Centene’s investment in the region will continue to grow and attract talent from around the globe, drive innovation, and serve the nation's most vulnerable populations.
The dedication ceremony featured remarks from public officials and Centene leadership to commemorate the next chapter of Centene's history. The establishment of our East Coast headquarters reinforces our continued growth and positions Centene geographically to serve our members through enhanced programs and expanded capabilities.
"Our new state-of-the-art campus and growing Charlotte workforce will enable Centene to drive innovation through technology and continue advancing our mission of serving the most vulnerable populations in North Carolina and across the country," said Michael Neidorff, Chairman, President, and CEO of Centene. "We are honored to contribute to the economic development of the region and are proud to announce that, over time, we will invest $1 billion in the Charlotte community. We are thankful to our many partners within the city of Charlotte, the county of Mecklenburg, and the state of North Carolina and look forward to continued collaboration and growth."
In collaboration with the local community, Centene will recruit talent for approximately 6,000 new jobs to be located at the one-million-square-foot Charlotte campus. The first phase of the new East Coast Headquarters is scheduled to open in the second half of 2022. The campus will include a number of employee amenities, including a childcare and early education center, auditorium, fitness center, healthcare clinic and pharmacy, and a corporate learning and development center.
Charlotte becomes one of Centene's three main campuses, including the Global headquarters in St. Louis, Missouri, and the company's West Coast headquarters in Sacramento, California. Centene also operates local market healthcare offices in Charlotte and other parts of North Carolina, including Durham, Raleigh, and Wilmington.
"Centene's decision to build its East Coast headquarters in our state is a testament to our dedicated workforce and wonderful quality of life," said North Carolina Governor Roy Cooper. "I look forward to seeing the positive economic impact these new jobs have on Charlotte, the surrounding counties, and our entire state."
Centene is pleased to be a part of this thriving region, with opportunities to expand our inclusive workforce and strengthen our commitment to sustainable development. As the enterprise continues to invest in future growth, whether through new facilities, new programs, or innovative technology, we remain focused on improving the health of our communities and those we serve.
