Centene's commitment to transforming healthcare is not only reflected in the services we provide, but also in how we treat one another inside and outside of the organization. Promoting diversity and inclusion (D&I) across the enterprise has been a priority since Centene’s founding. We understand that the diverse perspectives and experiences of our employees help shape a more equal, fair, and just society for all. Programs that promote our equitable and inclusive workplace put these ideals into action.

Centene is actively developing a workforce representative of those we serve at all levels of the organization. Employee Inclusion Groups (EIGs) support the attraction, development, and retention of the best talent at all levels while ensuring employees' voices are heard. Employee-led EIGs provide professional and leadership development opportunities, contribute to community engagement initiatives, and drive business innovation and corporate best practices.

July 26, 2020 marks the 30th anniversary of the signing of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). This landmark legislation helps increase access and opportunity for people with disabilities in our nation’s workplaces and communities. The video below outlines how Centene's People with Disabilities and Caregivers EIG, ABILITY, works to expand disability cultural competency companywide.

Centene's D&I efforts were recently acknowledged with two corporate recognitions. We are honored to be included on the 2020 DiversityInc Top 50 Companies for Diversity list. The DiversityInc Top 50 Companies for Diversity benchmarking survey was created in 2001 and is the leading assessment of diversity management in corporate America with more than 1,800 companies participating in this year’s evaluation.

For the fourth consecutive year, Centene was recognized as one of the Best Places to Work for People with Disabilities. Centene again scored 100 percent on the Disability Equality Index® (DEI), a national benchmarking tool that measures businesses on their disability inclusion policies and practices. The DEI is a joint initiative of the American Association of People with Disabilities (AAPD) and Disability:IN.

Throughout the organization, Centene is proud of the diverse representation of our employee base and in our executive leaders. Women represent 75% of our employees, 64% of individuals in supervisory positions, and 55% at the director level and above. Of our total workforce, 50% identify as people of color, with 36% of those individuals in supervisory positions and 26% at the director level and above. On our Board of Directors, 42% identify as female and/or as a person of color.

While our commitment to D&I is long-standing, we know there is still much more work to be done. Learn more about our diverse organization and our ongoing efforts on
