There are six categories within the 2019 DEI benchmark.

  • Culture & Leadership
  • Enterprise-Wide Access
  • Employment Practices
  • Community Engagement
  • Supplier Diversity
  • Non-U.S. Operations

The DEI is a joint initiative of the American Association of People with Disabilities and Disability:IN, in consultation with the appointed DEI Advisory Committee, a diverse group of experts in business, policy, and disability advocacy.

Centene has long recognized the benefits of workplace policies that provide a supportive and welcoming environment for people with disabilities. Our organization is dedicated to developing resources for disability inclusion with respect to our employees, members, providers and suppliers. While our top score is something to be celebrated, Centene consistently works to improve our culture of inclusion.

One of the ways Centene has worked to achieve integrated, whole-person health and wellness was establishing a National Disability Advisory Council (CNDAC) in 2012, made up of top disability rights leaders and heads of national disability focused organizations. As an advisory council, the CNDAC provides expertise and a strategic vision for best practices that help shape the company's disability policies, as an employer and as a managed care provider.

Furthermore, Centene's Executive Diversity & Inclusion Council is comprised of senior leaders who guide their respective business units in implementing and sustaining successful diversity and inclusion practices across the enterprise. They lead by example and consistently work to ensure our company demonstrates a best-in-class culture of diversity and inclusion. Council members meet regularly to discuss progress on initiatives and ways to strengthen our commitment to this inclusive culture.

In addition to establishing the CNDAC and the Executive Diversity and Inclusion Council, our organization also launched Centene's People with Disabilities Employee Inclusion Group (ABILITY) in 2018. Open to all employees, ABILITY is a voluntary, employee-led group that drives impact by supporting the attraction, development, and retention of the best talent at all levels.

ABILITY's mission is to support and enable employees to fully contribute and reach their full potential in the workplace. The group works to expand disability cultural competency throughout the company. We do this by focusing on education, engagement, accessibility, talent enhancement, and community involvement in order to drive engagement and performance.
